Traditional Palenquero Braiding Tour

Highlights

• We begin the tour with pickup from your hotel in Cartagena. After an approximately 1 hour and 30 minute drive, we arrive in San Basilio de Palenque, where you’ll receive a warm welcome with a refreshing local drink.
• The art of hairstyles, a tradition with deep roots: Once in the heart of the village, you’ll meet our expert Palenquera braiders, keepers of ancestral knowledge passed down from generation to generation. While enjoying the atmosphere and history, you’ll receive a traditional Palenquero hairstyle (included in the experience) from our catalog. During the process, you’ll learn about the cultural and symbolic meaning of each braid: escape routes, coded messages, and the connection to Afro-descendant identity.
• Traditional Palenquero Lunch: After the braiding session, you’ll savor a delicious homemade lunch, prepared with local ingredients and lots of love, a true feast of traditional flavors.
• Live Music (Sounds of Resistance and Joy): To close the day, we’ll enjoy a live music performance showcasing traditional rhythms such as bullerengue, son palenquero, and other sounds that make both memory and body come alive.
• Return to Cartagena: After this transformative experience, we head back to Cartagena with a new hairstyle, plenty of photos, and a heart full of history and cultural pride.
